BRS Case Study

Hannah Uruci, Director of commercial cleaning firm, BRS Cleaning Contractors Ltd, is delighted to be a finalist at this year’s FSB Hertfordshire Business Awards.

On graduating with a degree in English literature from Kings College London University in summer 2013, despite her lack of experience and young age, Hannah dived straight into self-employment and launched BRS with a strong determination to succeed. She started with just a few cleaning cloths in the back of a small FIAT car but has since had teams of up to 30 employees and among her biggest achievements to date was achieving a construction cleaning contract worth over £100,000.00.

BRS Cleaning pride themselves in being ‘Responsive cleaning specialists’ and offer a range of deep cleaning and contract cleaning services with a particular niche for Builders cleaning in the construction industry.

Being only 21 at the time of establishing BRS, looking back, Hannah says “It was hard to get people to take me seriously, especially in the construction industry, but my vision for BRS from the start was to be experts in our field and this is what we are striving to be.” Hannah has done all of the marketing and business development, bookkeeping and diary management, etc. for BRS herself in an effort to keep overheads low and to be able to offer competitive prices.

Hannah has spent a lot of time polishing up her company’s Health and Safety policies and as a result, BRS have been awarded with various leading industry accreditation and certification, including SMAS (Safety Management Assessment scheme) Worksafe status and is listed in the SMAS online portal used by leading UK housebuilders and Construction companies to source suppliers for construction projects.

SMAS is a third party accreditation scheme that assesses the health and safety competence of contractors and service providers. Under the SMAS system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines the health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.

Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a secure website. From a client’s perspective, SMAS provides evidence that clients are meeting their relevant legal requirements, increased confidence in the health and safety competence of contractors and ensures that contractor lists are managed more effectively.

The FSB Hertfordshire Business awards are the first business awards that Hannah has entered and she is both surprised and delighted to be a finalist.
